Artful Adventure in Asheville!

Just got back from an Awesome Adventure in Artful Asheville!  Loved this mountain town full of good food, great art, and natural beauty!  My family and I rented a cabin overlooking a private pond.  I was captivated by the beauty of the shifting light and reflections on the pond.  I felt like Monet only with a camera instead of a paint brush.  Our little cabin was storybook cute on the outside and boasted an eclectic collection of local art on the inside.  One of our favorite pieces was a metal chair made by artist Cindy Wynn.  We had fun visiting the shops and studios of the River Arts District and Zapow Gallery!  We talked with a sculptor who makes souls out of clay, a painter who creates beautiful landscapes with gold leaf and resin, an artist who makes mountains and mandalas out of tape, and artist/author Alena Hennessy who wrote "Cultivating Your Creative Life."  We enjoyed a tour of the amazing Biltmore Estate with its impressive art, history, and mountain views.  We hiked through forests and over streams to view breathtaking waterfalls (4 in 1 day).  We ate the best ribs and BBQ ever at 12 Bones and had a delicious meal at Tupelo Honey Cafe.  We had fun exploring "District 12" from the Hunger Games movie and loved coming home to sunset and moonrise at the cabin!  If you like Art and Adventure, Asheville is the place for you!

Art Parties: "Create & Celebrate!"

I started hosting monthly Art Parties this year in an effort to add more creative time to my calendar, spend more time with my friends, and test out my skills as an art instructor!  What started as just a fun excuse to get together with friends has turned into something more.  By combining my drive to create with my skills as a social worker, I have been able to provide a unique experience where art meets self discovery and personal growth!  I have had such great feedback from my friends, that I am now opening up these "Create & Celebrate" nights to other groups of women!  Not only do you get to sip, snack and socialize with your friends, you leave with an original, meaningful masterpiece to take home.  You may even gain a better understanding of yourself and appreciation of your friends.  I hope you will join me to "Create & Celebrate!" Gather your girlfriends, drinks and snacks and email me at jackietury@gmail.com to schedule your Art Party!  Let the creativity flow and the fun begin!

Art Parties are 3 hours long and cost $45.  All art supplies are provided.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Some recent "art from the heart"!  I recycled some of my abstract paintings and turned them into mixed media collages.  I am back on track with my "artful journey" and trying to "follow my heart" and "be true" to my art and to myself.

Dot & Dash Art Show!

The Dot and Dash Show opened last week at Del Ray Artisans in Alexandria!  The show runs from February 1-24.  The highlight for me is having my daughter Zoe participate in the show!   Way to go Zoe!  Zoe's piece is titled "dots and dashes" after the show title.  My piece is a mixed media collage titled "be true."  I also donated a piece called "true love" to the silent auction.  I am so touched that a young, ten year old artist bought a mini heart collage of mine at the show as a Valentine surprise for her mom!  Be sure to check out the silent auction and the children's workshop this weekend!

Hopes and Dreams take Flight!

I finally mailed my artwork to Cloth Paper Scissors magazine.   I stressed myself out wondering and worrying…should I decorate the box? what if it gets lost in the mail? what if it doesn't get there in time? what if they don't like it? Finally, I just packaged it up with love and care and said a little prayer. It was then that I realized, I wasn't simply holding a piece of cardboard.  This small box had become more to me.  This little box was not just holding my artwork, it was carrying my hopes and dreams.  I decided to give my box wings, set it free and let my hopes and dreams take flight!

Thank you Kelly Rae, Autumn Rose and fellow flyers for helping me find my wings.  Wish me luck!
