Back home and playing catch up!

My April and May Art Parties were "On the Road" and I am just now playing catch up!  I took some much needed time off from my art biz the last couple of weeks to catch my breath and spend time with my family.  My main focus now is finishing the school year and preparing for my daughter's graduation!  My next art party will most likely be in July.  In the meantime, hope you enjoy these photos from the last two art parties/workshops!  Please check back often :) Feel free to email me at jackietury@gmail.com to request an art party or workshop or to be added to my mailing list. Thanks to Donna and Amanda for hosting me in their beautiful studios and thank you to all the wonderful, creative women who joined me for these artful events!

Full Moon Over Folly!

This mixed media painting was created after returning from spring break where I was lucky enough to witness a beautiful full moon rise over the ocean at Folly Beach! Loved how the palm trees were blowing in the breeze!  I will be teaching this project in a workshop/art party this summer!  Stay tuned for dates and details, or message me to be added to my list.  I am also happy to host private art parties and create commissioned pieces :)

"Love lives here"

"Love lives here" is painting 7/50 in my "50 to 50 Challenge."  It is all about centering yourself in love and radiating that love to others.  May you feel loved and share that love with others.   May you live in a space that you feel loved, supported, nurtured and appreciated.  "Love lives here!"

My Word of the Year (LEAP!) and how to choose your own WOTY:

Choosing your Word of the Year (WOTY):

What are your hopes and dreams for 2016?  What do you want to focus your time and energy on this year?  How do you want your life to look or feel?  What is the central theme of the year to come? By asking yourself these questions, you can come up with your own Word of the Year (WOTY).  Close your eyes and write down the first word that pops into your mind as you think of the year ahead.  Surrender and allow your word to come to you, with intuition as your guide.  Your word can be a noun, verb, or adjective.  It can even be a phrase or mantra.  Whatever you choose, it should be personal, powerful and meaningful to you.  If several words come to mind, make a list and visualize each one and how it applies to your personal vision for 2016.  Is there a theme that emerges?  Is there one word or phrase that stands out above the rest?  Go with that word and let it be your guide for 2016!

Once you decide on your WOTY,  make it visible!  Share your word with family and friends so they can help support you on your journey.  Write about it in your journal.  Create a canvas with your word front and center and display it where you will be reminded of your intention each and every day!  (This is the project and process I guided participants through at my recent Art Workshop: “Setting Your Intentions for the Year!” We also created a set of inspirational cards with our WOTY to save and share!)  Allow your WOTY to provide insight, inspiration, empowerment, affirmation, and validation throughout the coming year!  Use it as your guidepost in creating a year full of dreams come true!

My Word of the Year (LEAP!):

Several words jumped out at me this year, but one stood out above the rest.  I had a long list that included leap, launch, celebrate, possibility, aloha, collaborate, believe, wonder, release, and many more.  Some themes that emerged were letting go, new chapters, endings and beginnings.  I felt I needed a word that was active and intentional rather than passive.  I needed a word that could somehow capture the feeling and emotion I was already having about this BIG year ahead.  The word I kept coming back to was LEAP!

2016 is a BIG year full of BIG changes and BIG emotions for me!  In addition to being leap year, and presidential election year, 2016 is the year my eldest daughter will graduate high school and go off to college, my youngest daughter will turn sweet 16, and I will turn the BIG 5-0!  In addition to the normal challenges of daily life, there is a whole sea full of change and uncertainty for me and my family to navigate this year.  As I mentioned in an earlier post, I plan to do this by continuing to follow my heART.  Difficult decisions lie ahead and the unknown and uncharted waters can be scary.  Financial responsibilities will be increasing, family dynamics will be shifting, health issues will be resolved, and hopefully my art business will not only stay afloat, but will thrive.  We will be ending one chapter and beginning a new one .  I am trying to remind myself to leave fear and doubt behind and to LEAP forward and allow the “net to appear!”  To do this I need to have trust, faith, courage and support!  It’s going to be a BIG year and I am ready to take the LEAP!  I hope that you will join me!

Autumn Update--Release and Receive!

I may have been neglecting my blog lately, but I have been fully enjoying my life off-line and spending as much time with family as possible!  And that’s what it’s all about, right?  This fall has been abundant with wonderful activities and opportunities!  For me, it has been about releasing and receiving!  Here is a look at what I’ve been up to:

My oldest daughter is a senior in high school and big surprise, is thinking of applying to art school. Earlier this month, my family enjoyed a weekend trip to NYC to check out some schools and visit my 97 year old grandmother.  What a treat to listen to my grandmother’s stories, to walk the Brooklyn Bridge, and to enjoy exploring the city!

Next, I headed to the beach for a mini-Serendipity art retreat hosted by my friend Donna Hollowell of Deja New and new friend Michelle Madden Smith of Animyst and led by one of my favorite mixed media artists, the lovely and talented Alena Hennessy.  It was just what I needed!  Usually I am the one hosting and teaching and nurturing others at Workshops and Retreats.  This time I was on the receiving end!  I released responsibility and expectation and allowed myself to relax, create, connect.  It was wonderful.  I loved our projects and all the kindred creative spirits—all such wonderful women!  And of course I loved my time by the ocean—my ultimate healer and source of inspiration.  Now that I was able to retreat and nurture myself, I am ready to nurture others again and can’t wait to host our annual Artful Awakenings Retreat at the beach this Spring! Thank you to all who contributed to make this early birthday gift possible!  I enjoyed every minute of it!

I came home from the beach with sand on my feet, a smile on my face and a starfish in my suitcase.  Not to mention new energy, new friends, and new artwork!  Next, I had a full week of fun birthday celebrations with friends and family!  Thank you everyone for making me feel so loved, appreciated, and celebrated!

Last weekend, my family and I enjoyed the spectacular display of autumn colors in Skyline Drive.  I think we hit the peak!  The views were truly gorgeous!  One of our favorite traditions!  Love soaking in the beauty and abundance of autumn!

Next up, it’s Halloween and my November art party (Dare to DREAM)!

I am super excited about my November Art Party/Workshop!  The theme is dreamcatchers.  I have been looking forward to this project for months now,  but am even more excited about this theme after returning from my mini-retreat and creating 3-d dream catchers with fellow creatives at the beach! What a great coincidence and fun experience!  The dream catchers we will be creating at my November Art Party/Workshop will be 2-d on canvas using mixed media techniques.  Of course we will have plenty of 3-d embellishments on hand to add to your masterpiece.  No art experience necessary.  Come gather in gratitude to celebrate the abundance of autumn and “Dare To DREAM!” Don’t miss this opportunity to create your own dream catcher on canvas as a visual reminder of your dreams and intentions.  To register go to: www.jackietury.blogspot.com under the "Art Party" tab and scroll down to "November!"
