Enjoyed "filling my cup" with these wonderful women!

Art is definitely one of the favorite ways I "fill my cup!"  I also enjoy walking, yoga, the beach, time with my family, laughing with friends, time to myself, reading, writing, simply BE-ing.  My cup has definitely been running a little low lately, which is why I chose this theme and created this project for my March art party.  I enjoyed gathering with a wonderful group of women last night as we took time to "fill our cups!" We had a great evening of sampling teas, treats, coffee and more as we connected with each other and created mixed media cups on canvas!  I hope that our canvases will serve as visual reminders to slow down, sip and savor the everyday moments and take time to "fill our cups" so we can better serve others.  Thank you ladies--you and your artwork are amazing!

Dare to DREAM!

"Life holds special magic for those who dare to dream!" (author unknown). We definitely had some "dreamwork in progress" last night as we gathered to create beautiful mixed media dream catchers encouraging us to chase our dreams and inspiring us to follow our hearts!  A huge thank you to all the wonderful women who joined me last night to share their dreams, their snacks, and their creativity! May all your dreams come true!

"Let Yourself GROW" Art Party--in full BLOOM!

April's Art Party--"Let Yourself GROW!" was in full BLOOM yesterday!  We took advantage of the gorgeous spring day and moved our Art Party outside--surrounded by blossoms and blooms!  What a great way to celebrate spring!  Thank you SO much to Jennifer, Jen, Jenny, and Katie!  Your blooms are beautiful!

This spring, remember to take time to stop and smell the flowers as well give yourself time, space and opportunities to try new things and "let yourself grow!"

All of my Art Parties are held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on the 2nd Sunday of each month (except for May, as the 2nd Sunday is Mother's Day).  May's Art Party is scheduled for Sunday, May 17th.  Online registration will be available soon on my blog.  Hope you will join me again soon!

"Take time to nurture yourself..."

March is a month nestled between winter and spring.  It invites us to take a little time to slow down, get cozy and go within to prepare for the new growth and activity of spring.  It’s a time to clear the clutter mentally, physically, spiritually and prepare a warm, safe, nurturing environment for ourselves and our families.  These sacred spaces can nourish our souls and promote growth, healing, and wellbeing.  As women, we are often so busy nurturing others, we forget to nurture ourselves.  This month, take some time to nurture yourself.  

Thank you so much to all the wonderful women who came to my March Art Party "Nest & Nurture!"  I am so happy you took the time to nurture your creativity with me!  It was so nice to connect with old friends and meet new ones!  You were all such fun to paint with!  I LOVE the beautiful and inspiring nests you created!  I hope they remind you of the fun we had and to take time to nurture yourselves.

With Valentine’s Day approaching, it’s the perfect time to focus on love, passion and following your heART!  That is exactly what we did at Sunday’s Art Party where we lovingly created beautiful passion inspired works of art to remind us to follow our heARTs!  

Thank you to all the wonderful women who joined me to open their hearts and connect with their creativity!  Your work is amazing and so are you!  I am looking forward to creating with you again on March 8th (registration coming soon).

"Windows of Opportunity" -- First Art Party of 2015!

Happy New Year and thank you for joining me for the 1st Art Party of 2015!  Traditionally, my first art party of each year has a “journey” theme as we begin our journey into the new year.  While I love this tradition and the symbolism that is attached to my traditional “journey” project, this year we started with something “new” and different.  I think being open and trying new things is a great way to get the new year started.  Instead of painting on canvas as we usually do at my Art Parties, we painted on windows!  I asked students to think of it as painting “windows of opportunity” or “a window of wishes for the new year!”  

Before we started painting, I asked everyone to clean their windows and imagine wiping away any fear, doubt, and negativity.  Imagine getting rid of anything that is blocking you or no longer serving you.   Prepare a clean slate, a fresh start, a blank canvas (or window in this case) for the new year and invite clarity and opportunity into your future!  

I asked students to take a moment to think about their journey into the new year.  What direction are you headed in?  Are there new things you want to try?  Words or actions you want to live by?  Experiences you want to have?  Dreams you wish to pursue?  

I told them that our “windows of opportunity” would serve as visual reminders of the journey we are on this year.  We can hang them in our homes to provide inspiration, joy, and encouragement along the way.  

Since my focus for the year is my art business.  I chose the words “dream, play, create, awaken” because these are words I want to live by in my daily life as well as what I want to share with others through my classes, art parties, and retreats!  I want other people to experience the joy that these simple pleasures can bring!  I decided to paint these words on the 4 corner panes of my window and add mini symbols or marks that went with the word (i.e.- polka dots with “play” and swirls with “create”).  I also chose to add two images into the inner two panes.  One is a giant swirl with glass beads.  The other is a vase of paint brushes made from glass tiles and actual brushes. 

Using my samples as a launching pad and my words as a guide, my students created their own unique and amazing “windows of opportunity!”  Thank you Anne Marie, Carrie, Jaci, Debbie, and Kim for joining me for the first Art Party of 2015!  I enjoyed creating with each of you and LOVE your wonderful “windows of opportunity!”  It was fun to start the year off trying  something new! You all amaze me!  I hope your windows bring you joy, inspiration, and opportunity in the new year!  

Special thanks to Ginger for donating the windows for this special project and to Anne Marie for donating a couple windows as well.  Thanks also to Carrie for being persistent with her request to paint a window like the one she saw at my house at the 2013 December Art Party!  Ask and you shall receive. Your persistence and patience paid off :)  Sorry it took so long.

What Magic will YOU Create in 2015? Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

It’s that time of year to say goodbye to 2014 and give thanks for all of the blessings it bestowed.  I am grateful that 2014 was another wonderful year full of ART and ADVENTURE!  Here is a little wrap up:

I completed my second year of developing and hosting my monthly “Power Wish Painting Parties!”  It is so rewarding to create “artful affirmations” with a wonderful group of women each month and watch our dreams and desires manifest through mixed media!  I am super excited to share that not only have my students opened themselves up to creativity, but they have made lots of positive changes big and small this year!  Many have moved to new homes, found new jobs, started new business ventures, gone on fun life adventures, had new educational opportunities, started new relationships or renewed old ones.  All have experienced new joy, energy, passion, and creativity!  

I am also happy to report the huge success of my first “Artful Awakenings” Beach Retreat featuring a long weekend full of art, yoga, gourmet food, time by the ocean nurturing our souls!  This was a magical, meaningful weekend and dream come true!  I look forward to hosting many more of these uplifting, life changing retreats!

In other Artful news, I loved showing and selling my art at the Del Ray Artisans Gallery in Alexandria, VA; The Artful Gift Shop in Vienna, VA; the Dare County Arts Council Gallery in Manteo, NC; and the Jelly Lounge in Kitty Hawk, NC.  I also enjoyed having my own tent and display at my first big juried art festival, Art on the Avenue.  I loved taking Flora Bowley’s online class this winter and seeing her art in person this summer when we visited Portland, OR.  I am happy that I had time, energy and inspiration to create over 50 new works of art this year!  

While I wasn’t doing artful activities, I was watching my two beautiful daughters grow up way too quickly.  I also got to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday both with a rocking’ party at home and a weekend getaway to New Orleans to see Voodoo Fest! (Did I mention I got to hold hands with Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters?)  Our family also enjoyed hang gliding, several trips to the beach, visits with family and friends, and a wonderful vacation to the Pacific Northwest that included lots of great food and beautiful scenery!  All in all, a very good year!  Thank you for your continued support on my creative journey!  

Now it’s time to begin again.

I love starting each new year with a clean slate and a blank canvas and seeing what unfolds!

Looking ahead to 2015, the word that comes to mind is MAGIC!  I can’t wait to see what Artful Magic 2015 has in store!  What magic will you create this year?  Wishing you all a Healthy, Happy, Magical New Year!  xxoo ~ jackie

Amazing "Artful Angels"!
