Here is a mini mermaid I created as a gift for my friend Jennifer's birthday. I already have other mermaid requests from family and friends. "Another cake?!" my daughter asked. "Yes, another cake!" I am having too much fun with my little cake paintings to stop now! I like experimenting with the different textures, patterns, decorations and designs. I can't decide if this latest one looks more like a birthday cake or a wedding cake. You decide. Either way, this cake is ready for spring and so am I!

Let Them Eat Cake!
With the recent snow days, I finally had a chance to start the cake paintings I had sketched ages ago. I also had time to create a mini version of my pink cupcake painting that was in the Artomatic show. I love the 3-D effect. The frosting looks good enough to eat. These colorful (and tasty) creations will be complete just in time for Valentine's Day! If you are interested in purchasing a piece, please email me at jackietury@cox.net. Now it's on to the baking of real cakes and cupcakes. Happy Valentine's Day!

Artful Adventure!
Our family had an Awesome Artful Adventure last Saturday thanks to professional artist and author Sandra Magsamen! We traveled two hours to her event just outside of Baltimore, MD and it was well worth the trip! Sandra was fun, generous, gracious, and oh so Artful! Our whole family had such a wonderful time visiting with Sandra and her family! Check out Sandra's book "Living Artfully" and her website www.sandramagsamen.com. Her inspirational work can be found everywhere from Hallmark to Walmart. Thanks again Sandra!

Busy with Birthdays!!!
Our creative energies have been spent setting up our new house, hosting guests, and celebrating birthdays! All of which we have enjoyed! Here are some photos of our daughter's Alice in Wonderland Party. My husband created huge cardboard character cutouts and turned our entire basement into Wonderland. I was in charge of the cake (a cheshire cat, per our daughter's request), games and party favors. We even dressed up as Wonderland characters to greet our guests. A good time was had by all!

New Home!!!
I'm so excited--we just moved into our New Home on Wed! It's absolutely beautiful and I LOVE everything about it! I can't wait to set up shop and start painting. I painted the "butterfly field" the day I miraculously found our dream home. We had already sold our home and couldn't find anything we liked. We were at the end of our rope. This house appeared out of nowhere, all the stars aligned and now the home is ours! I painted the "home is where your heart is" as our change of address announcement. On another note, the new Dare County Arts Council Gallery in Manteo, NC is now officially open and has my sea creatures on display. Stop by if you're in OBX.
